Album Review

Alex Nackman comes off as more of a pop/rock stylist than a distinctive songwriter on his third album, Sunrise Falls. The folk-rock arrangements, with their chiming electric guitar riffs and driving rhythms, give the songs an urgency that Nackman reinforces with his throaty, impassioned singing. And the songs are catchy, with strong hooks. But the lyrics, which tend to be de-emphasized, find the singer suffering the usual romantic difficulties of all pop music, expressed in words that fit the contours of the music but don't stand out as particularly meaningful, so that Sunrise Falls is the sort of album that sounds better if one doesn't listen all that carefully.

Customer Reviews

Prolific, well produced

"sunrise falls" is a terrific album overall. i can listen through 1-12. i guess my only issue is the topical sameness throughout much of the CD -- it's definitely a 'lost love' record, but alex nackman maybe spends too much time on that topic within the record. don't get me wrong, he attacks every song differently and even with lyrical poeticism, but the feelings tend not to vary as much as they could. nonetheless, i thoroughly like this album...definitely alex nackman's most mature release of his current 4.

Take Notice Now

As a close friend of Alex, I was privileged to hear some of these songs as just bare bones in the comfort of Alex's apartment. I can't begin to say how far Alex and the songs have come. Alex's previous effort was heartfelt and warm, but this one shows immense musical growth. Alex has always been known as a smart lyricist, and these songs do not disappoint. Each of these songs is like a single. They're unique, and their melodies draw you into the lyrics. I really hope this is the serious jumping off point for Alex, because he works so hard, and has put his heart and soul into the making of this album. Buy the whole album, you'll be happy you did.

lots to offer

I first got into Alex Nackman from a friend. I saw him in Dallas. The show was great. I think "Sunrise Falls" is a well-rounded CD with a lot of musical elements to offer...every track has a conscious.
