Album Review
Robert Cray always flirted with gritty Southern soul, but it wasn't until Sweet Potato Pie that he made a full-fledged soul-blues record in Memphis. Cray hasn't abandoned blues, but he's woven punchy horns and sexy rhythms into the mix, resulting in one of his stronger records of the '90s. The material remains a bit uneven, but his taste is impeccable — few blues guitarists are as succinct and memorable as he, and the soul settings of Sweet Potato Pie only confirm that fact.

Amazing album!!
not only one of my favorites by R.Cray but by anyone ever. The closest I've heard to an Otis Redding (who's my favorite btw) album as far as the arrangements and the music itself, but with Rob's silky smoothe voice instead. Not a bad song on Sweet Potato Pie. It's good right down to the last crumb!! Sorry had to throw that in there lol
Tight, sweet blues music
Robert Cray has played inimitable blues/soul for a long time and has two of the most expressive voices in the genre - his vocals and his strat. Each track on this album has appeal, whether the humor of Trick or Treat, the waterlogged Nothing Against You or the soulful The One In the Middle or Not Bad for Love. Treat yourself to a great album, one of Robert's best.
