Album Review
Continuing the eclectic thread that stitched together 2008’s Such Fun, this EP tackles multiple styles over the course of 19 minutes. Leadoff track “Loxtep” is a gearhead’s paradise, filled to the brim with whizzing computer noises, Latin rhythms, post-production studio effects, and toots from every instrument imaginable, while the title track finds an unlikely balance between tropicalia and Ibiza club music. Sweet Sister concludes with two country-tinged tracks — including a cover of Johnny Cash’s 1970 hit “Flesh & Blood” — but even those feature some surprise additions, from the polyrhythmic percussion and DJ squiggles of “Holler and Howl” to the twinkling indie pop polish that coats the Cash tune. Produced by the band itself, these songs help bridge the gap between Annuals’ two full-length albums, taking their wild eclecticism from Be He Me but keeping the melodies that anchored Such Fun.

Why the annuals rock
I'm a die hard annuals fan. I listen to them way too much, I have everything they have released and i know all the songs. I was very very very excited for this EP and i tried to find it on the net before it came out. All i found was loxtep and holler and howl. these two are actually the highlights of the EP. The thing about the annuals, is their uniqueness, they never fit in a box, or a sphere, or a cone and you have to just go with the flow. I wasn't such a huge fan of such fun, but the songs grow on you, the annuals will never be who they used to be, but based on this they are headed in an interesting direction. Always give annuals songs time to work on you, create their own personality for you, first impression isn't anything with annuals.

This band is incredible, but this album sounds like it was made on a laptop. Some of the songs sound like they're trying to fit as much electronic sounds as they could. The lyrics are horrible monkey garbage. It really disappointed me because before this album, these guys were on my top 5 all time favs. The thoughtless lyrics are what really got to me. None of the songs sound like a band. . . . I think when they make an LP it will be good. Maybe it sucked so much because they put more effort into the incredible new sunfold EP? The last song is a cover, but I don't like the original version, let alone the cover. All in all its missing that cinematic, riff driven, dynamic, intense fusion of love that the other albums had. Sorry to all who like this . . . I'm just being honest. I really really wanted to love it, and listen to it over and over again.
