iTunes Review
The second volume in the essential Sweeter Side of Latin Soul series highlights more R&B balladry from legendary Nuyorican artists like Ralfi Pagan, Lebron Brothers, Ralph Robles and Landy Nova. Most of these songs were B-sides or album tracks on vinyl records released by the New York-based salsa labels Fania, Tico, Alegre and Vaya. While the bands and singers included here were primarily known for their high-energy dance music, they also had a special talent for singing delicate ballads in the style of American R&B groups like the Impressions. The result is a subculture of songs that are, in their own way, every bit as fragile and moving as Curtis Mayfield’s “I’m So Proud” or “For Your Precious Love.” This music unites the gentle earnestness of doo-wop with the dreamy arrangements of Philly soul and the deeply integrated musicianship of salsa. The results are romantic and heartbreaking, often in the same moment. Simply put, songs don’t come more potent than “Latin Blues” by Orquesta La Fantastica, “Don’t Be Afraid” by the Lebron Brothers, and “Loneliness” by Joe Acosta.

Latin Soul: A trip down 99
My homie Lou-Rod put onto "Rain" by Brooklyn Sound; Chicanismo at it's finest.
Just Buy It!
I have both albums. I'm a huge Ralfi Pagan fan ( don't know why they don't have El Flaco de Oro) and these albums deliver. Perfect to be with your woman and relax. Ralfi Con Safos!!!!
