Swords= Abusive Relationship You Keep Going Back To

Go back to 2004 when Morrissey gave us “It’s Hard To Walk Tall When You’re Small”. It was from the first single of “You Are The Quarry” it was perfection. That first b-side I sought out to collect in every possible, buyable, musical format was a sign of many more to come and the beginning of a waiting period for more singles. Forward to 2009 and here we are 5 years later, 6 albums later (You Are The Quarry, You Are The Quarry “Platinum Edition”, Live At Earls Court, Ringleader Of The Tormentors, Greatest Hits, Years Of Refusal) and hundreds of dollars spent on marvelous music. So maybe you didn’t spend hundreds of dollars and waited anxiously for new releases during that time period. I understand not everyone is passionate about Morrissey. That is where “Swords” comes in and stabs you….right in the back too.
For us fans, it’s a slap on the face but at the same time, we love it. I know I do. It adds to the collection and gives us a new picture sleeve.
In my opinion all the b-sides of “Ringleader Of The Tormentors” are highlights of this album. The first track “Good Looking Man About Town” the great “Christian Dior” and a creative New York Dolls cover “Human Being” are all gems worth listening to. The b-side to “Irish Blood, English Heart ” has Moz signing in Spanish, you can hear that in “It’s Hard To Walk Tall When You’re Small” The single “Let Me Kiss You” gave us the best b-side from the “You Are The Quarry” album. You’ll find it in “Swords” and it’s called “Friday Mourning”
I could sit here and dissect every single song on this compilation. Tell you what b-side is to what single but I wont. I want you to buy this, listen to it, appreciate it, and if you agree with me go ahead and find out for yourself.

The B-Sides of Morrissey...

If you are one of the few who a) are reading this AND b) don't already know this about Morrissey's music, then...
Morrissey's B-sides have always been golden nuggets. Unpredictable and at times BETTER than some of the A-sides! This particular collection is full of truly great songs.
Maybe not radio hits, and maybe that is why these songs may be better songs.
This may be one of his all-time best collections...
Just buy the first 4 songs and see.. Excellent ones they be...

I think..

.. his B-Side collections have always been stong.. whether constructed with his permission or not. To this day my favorite Moz song is 'I Know Very Well How I Got My Name' and that is his first solo B-Side ever. But Swords is a little more in a way.. it's like the alternate universe Morrissey album that was being built slowly over a decade unintentionally, while consciously 3 proper albums were being produced. It is with capitalistic disappointment that I paid $24.00 for the 180-gram vinyl set of this in a record store, but cannot have 'Slum Mums' or 'Human Being' unless I buy the entire package here. Boo! Get the vinyl in the real world... find the other songs another way - there are some very handsome shots of Moz in Swords. A friend of mine once told me that he has the sweetest smelling sweat of anyone. LOL! The music is still sweeter! On vinyl!

Biography

Born: May 22, 1959 in Manchester, England

Genre: Alternative

Years Active: '80s, '90s, '00s, '10s

As the lead singer of the Smiths, arguably the most important indie band in Britain during the '80s, Morrissey's theatrical crooning and literate, poetic lyrics — filled with romantic angst, social alienation, and cutting wit — connected powerfully with a legion of similarly sensitive, disaffected youth. These fans turned The Smiths into stars in Britain, exerting tremendous pull over much of the country's guitar-based music for many years after their breakup, and even if the group remained...
