Swung from the Branches

Great from start to finish!

     

This is the best album I've listened to in many a year. There is not one bad track on this thing. I almost rarely say that about any albums. iTunes has this listed as "alternative," but it's not. It has alot of moody, hazy, dreamy, ambient soundscapes with alot of warmth and emotion to them. So many albums are listed as chill or ambient but contain a bunch of fast electronic beats, but this is the real deal. I hate to compare, but I'd say this has some similarity to Boards of Canada, and that is a very good thing, but perhaps a little better and definitely encompassing more styles of music.

Don't get the wrong idea. This isn't easy listening, elevator music. It's very engaging. I usually prefer these types of albums to be strictly instrumental, save for the effects, but the handful of songs on here with vocals (such as 15 Ativan, Memory Pools, Flashing Lights) are spectacular. For once, the 30 second samples do the songs justice. If you like them you'll love the rest of the songs. They won't change on you all of a sudden. Seriously, give this album a try. I think you'll truly enjoy it if you have any interest at all in this type of music.
