iTunes Review

Proceeds for this album benefit the Participant Foundation to support music and arts education in public schools. As a master producer, T Bone Burnett has worked with a first-rate set of names and, truth told, sculpted their sounds in his likeness. His preference for acoustic, rootsy arrangements transforms many of this album’s performances, but most especially that of Elvis Costello, whose “Jimmie Standing in the Rain” leads this wonderful collection. Gregg Allman delivers his signature track, “Midnight Rider.” Yim Yames (Jim James of My Morning Jacket) is chilling with “Wonderful (The Way I Feel).” But the true joys here are newer talents: Karen Elson and The Secret Sisters prove the musical chain is always adding new links, despite roots music’s lack of commercial appeal. Burnett and Costello add their talents to Jeff Bridges’ “Fallin’ & Flyin’,” the centerpiece tune from the acclaimed film Crazy Heart. Taken from two October 2010 concerts, The Speaking Clock Revue—Live from the Beacon Theatre is a collaborative free-for-all with plenty of highlights.

..The "Speaking Clock Revue" is a "Breath Of Fresh Air" to all of the usual-same-old-overly-processed-Pop these days!-To have such "Hipster Heavyweights" as Elvis Costello & Greg Allman on one disc; Plus "Old Hands" like Ralph Stanley & Leon Russell on board; Dang; We are sorry we missed out on this Tour!-And to top it all off; People; "The Dude"(Jeff Bridges) really Sings!-Add on: The young talents of "New Traditionalists"; Like Neko Case & The Punch Brothers; T-Bone; Y'all have got another "Hit Record!"-This ensemble must have Rocked and Rolled the old Beacon Theatre that fine evening!-Ever since "O; Brother; Where Art Thou" and "Raising Sand"; Mr. Burnett stands back and gives his musicians the Time & Space needed to just Be & Breathe; So refreshing to hear; So welcome to these old ears!-"I Feel Wonderful; Too!"...by Grimmbo.
