Album Review
Many of the bands lumped together under broad "garage rock revival" banner don't stay particularly true to the original spirit behind the name. A true garage rock revival band is an essentially conservative concept, attempting to move backward four decades while ignoring pretty much every musical innovation that came after the invention of the Farfisa organ. By that stylistically limiting viewpoint, the Clutters' T&C is a remarkably successful garage rock revival album, in the way it so thoroughly commits to the sound of a snarling singer/guitarist, powerhouse organ player, and stomping rhythm section. At first, this sounds like a terrific idea, since opening track "Crack Your Heart" kicks things off with a killer mutation of the standard Bo Diddley riff and a shaggy start-stop dynamic. But after that powerhouse opener, the energy level stays high while the quality of the songwriting dips noticeably. By the fourth track, "Rock and Roll," the steadily increasing pileup of clichéd lyrics and cookie-cutter riffs will be sending less committed garage rock fans for the eject button. Occasional flashes of higher quality, like the perfect "bum-ba-bum-bum" chorus of "The Untitled One," are encouraging, but overall, T&C is primarily for the stylistic faithful.

Angry, Loud, Great
I heard one of their songs on Evert Nijkamp's site. Heard some samples & bought. Hard garage punk, lots of energy. 25 years ago radio would've played them, then national tours & they're stars. Instead they do weekend gigs in Nashville and some festivals. Listen to "Clash City Girl" and "The Untitled One." Unique.
Drinking Rock and Roll.
I consider this my favorite album of all time. It rocks the socks off of your feet and the pajamas off your torso. There is a full energy all the way through the album that is like an uncontrollable rhinocerous unleashed inside your soul. Awesome riffs, Electric and old-fashioned lyrics. Kicks like...something that kicks really hard. Not enough words to explain the vibe. Buy it. Trust me. You will not regret it. Best songs: Crack Your Heart, Rock and Roll, Nothing, When Worlds Divide
it don't mean a thing if it aint got that swing
I like good swingin rock& roll music (which the world is seriously lacking these days.) This has got it. I think the reviewer was way off on this one. I don't think it drops off at all. I love the organ, good strong punchy guitar & bass, upbeat beats, there's loads of attitude.... just a cool album. maybe a little of what I would consider tough brit pop infused with some serious 60's garage influence. This is one of those albums that you crank while yer having a beer in the shower & getting pumped up for a night out on the p.iss.
