Album Review
Another re-packaging of Bang Records material issued without Van Morrison's approval, this album focuses on Morrison's longer, more ambitious songs, such as the title cut, and is notable for including early versions of "Beside You" and "Madame George," songs that later turned up on Astral Weeks. (Reissued on CD in 1990 by Columbia Records [LCK 46093], T.B. Sheets was superseded by Bang Masters, which contains all of its tracks except "He Ain't Give You None," presented in an alternate take, plus Morrison's other recordings for Bang, in 1991.)
Customer Reviews
Brown Eyed Girl lyrics are wrong.
Before you download "Brown Eyed Girl" know that the line "makin' love in the green grass" is replaced with another line from earlier in the song. A little research says the song was edited in this way to help earn it airplay. If you want the "true" version of the song, check for Brown Eyed Girl (Single Version).
The Master Singer Tells Us The Story Of...
T.B. Sheets - not a person, but the agonizing slow death of someone suffering from Tuberculosis. This is a story song that goes for the throat - DYING BY DISEASE!
Van is so much more than Brown Eyed Girl!
Please do not think of Brown Eyed Girl when thinking of Van Morrison. He is one of the most soulful bluesmen of our time. TB sheets is a great display of the pain and frustration he can convey with his voice. I remember reading in a book about someone discovering Van when he played in bars before becoming big and hearing him before seeing him and saying something like "I thought he was black because of the soul in his voice." He is incredible and he himself does not like BEG - listen closely to everything else - THAT is Van Morrison.
