iTunes Review

T.S.O.L./Weathered Statues compiles the first two vinyl EPs from Los Angeles’ True Sounds Of Liberty. Though they underwent changes in members and direction, this 1981 artifact provides an early and exciting snapshot of the band’s ferocity, drive and politically charged angst. “Superficial Love” opens with descending power chords hammered-out in a slightly off-kilter attack as frontman Jack Greggors rails against the fake personalities of L.A., the United States military, and Ronald Reagan. Mike Roche’s muscled bass kicks-off “Property Is Theft,” a punchy mini-anthem with rabble-rousing, communist leanings. “No Way Out” gives paranoia an early theme-song, while “Abolish Government/Silent Majority” swaps communist viewpoints for anarchist ideals over a barrage of hyperactive rock ‘n’ roll temper tantrums. “World War III” expands on cold-war fears with catchy gang vocals. “Man and Machine” opens Weathered Statues with a noticeable improvement in songwriting and musicianship. The chiming title-track hints at the dark garage-rock direction of 1982’s Beneath the Shadows.

Classic American Punk

I have listened to this album at least 500 times. It remains to be one of my favorite punk albums. It definatley represents the LA/Long Beach punk scene, instead of the O.C. punk scene that everyone latches onto. You can't live without this album if you are into punk.

insane album

Probably one of the best albums i've ever heard in my life. buy it.

T.S.O.L: One of the all time best punk bands

I can't get enough of this album. I've listened to it all the time from friends and other people, and i needed to get it. I've been into punk for a while, and haven't come across T.S.O.L . at all until recently, and I can't stop listening to them. Definitely one of the best punk albums I've seen, and it definitely reps the overall LA punk scene.

In the early years of Los Angeles punk, one of the premiere hardcore bands was T.S.O.L., which stood for True Sounds of Liberty. Offering poppier music than many of their contemporaries and featuring an image that appealed to punks who wanted to dive deeper into the gothic subgenre already being offered by many British punk bands, T.S.O.L. became hugely popular on...
