While the statement, “those who can’t sing… play” is usually true, this is not the case for saxophonist Marty Q. On his new disc, TABLE FOR 2, you’re sure to be wowed by his soulful vocals and some of the sweetest sax tones to hit Smooth Jazz. This is evidenced on “True Blue,” a rousing duet with R&B singer Leila. Equally as engaging is the primarily instrumental bonus track of the same song. “Love Serenade” offers up a cool groove, while the fun and funky vibe of “New Beginnings” is delightfully embellished with old school scatting (think: Manhattan Transfer). “Eclipse” is a syncopated ditty with a big metropolitan, straight-ahead-jazz feel that’ll keeps you coming back to it. Produced by Chris “Big Dog” Davis, TABLE FOR 2 features a balanced menu of stellar soprano, alto and tenor sax work and an amuse-bouche from guest vocalist Phil Perry.
