Tadaima is perfection
This is one of the cleanest and most interesting sounding albums in a long time. The Non show their maturity with enhanced sound and rich experimentation. This is a must have. Great album. If the Non isn't signed soon, it will be a travesty.
An expansive, exciting second effort
Tadaima is fantastic, a great stretch from their somewhat less focused debut that really showcases the band’s evolving songwriting skills; they bring more diverse instrumentation, better production and some kickin’ riffs (“Pigeon Force,” “At Brillig”) that show they haven’t lost that funkified edge that made Paper City so much fun. The longer tracks (“Cloud Collision,” “Tadaima”) are really given some time to breathe and develop (something that I wish they’d done more of on Paper City – some songs would end right as I hoped they’d really kick off) with massive payoff, especially in the last minute of the title track. Revelatory moments are scattered throughout Tadaima; the soaring guitars around 3:10 of the opening track “No Spark, No Fire” sound like heaven’s gates swinging open, and the dense interplay between instruments on “Bhaba” puts other more established instrumental bands (ones that I like, mind you) to shame. All in all Tadaima is a fresh, emotional album that should (if the world has any sense of decency) put The Non on the map outside of their region.
Paper City was just the beginning
Tadaima surpasses the debut album (Paper City) in every way. Long story short, The Non are one of the most underrated instrumental bands in music today. Your ears will thank you later. My personal favorites: The Days to Come, Horse Leper, and Tadaima.
