Well Written Album
A blast to the past showcasing the best of 90's alt. rock! Songwriting and performances are top notch. Not to mention, it is nice to purchase an album in which each song stands out on its own! How often does that happen!?!? I purchased this album a few months ago and still listen to it each week!

Mature Musicianship
This album, at least in concept, reminds me a lot of Sting's "Ten Summoner's Tales". Solid pop sensibility that lends itself to very listenable tracks, yet an enormous amount of clever sections if you're listening closely. The highlight for me is Steve Rieck's guitar work. Interesting harmony featured in the compositions, and every lead phrase is on the money. Not to mention great tone throughout.
Press Reviews
“The first time Red Shift performed was only a year or so ago, in a tiny club where the shotgun architecture helped blast the decibel level well into the ear-bleed zone. But at the open-air venue of the Atlanta Dogwood Festival, the wide-open spaces of Piedmont Park took what would have been just loud and smoothed into a big, lush well-balanced whole.
Red Shift is gaining popularity but has yet to aquire fame, so when they started up only a handful of people were gathered along the gently sloping hill that formed the venue’s natural ampi-theatre. But after the first song – a real rocking, jazzy number that had “hit” written all over it – crowds quickly began walking over from the nearby Dog frisbee competition to see who was pumping out the good stuff.
The first thing you notice about Red Shift is the crystal clear vocals of Wade Lee, the truly buff lead singer. Then the unified whole of the band begins to get to you. They have a distinctive sound and style, a cross between the jazzier sound of Dave Matthews and some Y2K version of early Doors spaciness. Keyboardist about-town Erik Bennett joined them for this special concert and his sound and playing style fit perfectly, giving the band a full orchestral feel. In fact, all of the musicians really rose to the occasion with even more of the polished professionalism than they’ve preiously displayed at local club gigs.
The set consisted entirely of original material, chock full of changing rhythms and dynamic levels. “Wish You Gone” the sixth piece in their set, had a unique feeling of perpetual motion that swept you along into a musical world filled with the intensity and insanity of love.
At the end of their set the crowd reluctantly filtered back to the frisbee championship, wishing for shorted beer lines and a longer Red Shift concert.” - SOUTHEAST PERFORMER MAGAZINE (July 1999)
“A few weeks ago I stumbled into these guys’ first ever gig and was knocked out by their nascent professionalism, which immediately put to shame most of the bands in current rotation on 99x and Empty Vee. They have a sorta modified Matchbox 20 sound (Butane 20 maybe?) with a frontman who looks like George Michael and sings like Van Morrison. Grab a seat early!” - CREATIVE LOAFING MAGAZINE (April 4th 1998)
“If you’ve got any hearing left after three days of Music Midtown, stagger over to Smith’s Olde Bar and take a look at some hard-working locals who, if they play their cards right, could well be the Next Big Thing.” – ATLANTA JOURNAL CONSTITUTION (May 2nd 1998)
“Red Shift is a very new and quite promising Atlanta band who made their live debut two weeks ago at the Somber Reptile. The Ready for Radio group consists of Wade Lee on Vocals, Steve Rieck on Guitar, Greg Partridge on Bass and Brian Swinks on Drums. And they’ve already recorded a CD which effectively captures their very modern sound.” - CREATIVE LOAFING MAGAZINE (March 28th 1998)
“This is precisely the kind of diverse program I’d like to see a lot more of. Red Shift are a promising bunch of locals who suggest what Collective Soul might sound like if they were fronted by a young Van Morrison.” - CREATIVE LOAFING MAGAZINE (May 23rd 1998)
“one of the most commercial of our scene’s unsigned alterna-rock bands, Red Shift have a harder mainstream 99x type sound.” CREATIVE LOAFING MAGAZINE (July 4th 1998)
“This hot, young bunch of collective soul-stirrers take the first shift tonight.” CREATIVE LOAFING MAGAZINE (November 28th 1998)
