These Christian rockers, like fellow Jesus freaks DC Talk, absorb a lot of contemporary pop around them, so unless you're searching for the message, it's liable to be lost. Which leaves one with the music, which, unfortunately, has soaked up the blandest and most pedestrian of contemporary pop's devices (like power riffs and muscle anthems).

A witty profundity

Steve Taylor's songwriting and production shine through on this disc, as they also did on Going Public. The lyrics strike the incredible balance of being both light-hearted and profound. While some people may like the sound on one of the other Newsboys discs better (they changed style alot), the depth of the song-writing is almost without peer. "Lost the Plot" is priceless.

Take Me To Your Leader

While "Going Public" shouted about its message, "Take Me To Your Leader" seams more muted. Also the music is too bland and songs like "Reality", while have good meaning, are downright boring. But overal, the message continous to shine through and some songs like "Breakfast" actually sound like something

One of the more media-exposed Christian rock bands of the '90s, Newsboys formed in the late '80s around a core of John James, Peter Furler, and Philip Urry.
