iTunes Review

Sticking with the formula that has made him the world’s most famous beach bum, Take the Weather With You is another collection of catchy songs filled with barstool wisdom, corny quips, and thoughts about partying, growing older (but still partying), and the virtues of taking it easy. It’s not that he’s unaware of bad things happening outside of his own private cabana. He just has his own philosophy for dealing with such matters, which could be summed up in his song about Hurricane Katrina, “Breath In, Breathe Out, Move On.” Or, as he says on “Party At the End of World: “the bad news is the world is ending/the good news is there’s a party/but you better get here quick.” Most of the tunes on the album are well-chosen covers (only three were co-written by Buffett), including songs by Crowded House, Gillian Welch (a bouncy roadhouse version “Elvis Presley Blues”), Guy Clark, Merle Haggard, and Mark Knopfler (who contributes guitar on a mellow, bluesy version of “Whoop de Doo”). As usual, the melodies are pure, the music is fun and loose, and he’s irreverent — in short, Buffett’s song remains the same, and that should delight Parrotheads everywhere.

The weather is great!

Jimmy Buffett has delivered another great collection of songs, probably his best in the last decade. While most of the songs were penned by other writers, Jimmy has selected tunes that like a warm summer day, really fit his style. In one listening he takes you from the tragedy in New Orleans (Breath In, Breath Out, Move On) to a Party at the End of the World to a laid back Sunday in Hawaii! So relax and have a cold one at the Bama Breeze with Jimmy. And like the weather in Florida, if you don't like one song, wait a minute...you'll like the next.

Great ... Better than Ever!

I usually judge a good album by finding a song on it I like better than the one I bought the album for. In this case I found 11 songs better than the one I bought it for (14 songs on this CD). Jimmy Buffett has never had a category he fit into .... this album is no exception. It is a deeper album than others. It gives some insightful lyrics, some great cover songs, and a feeling of deep commitment to what is important in life. Playful, but not always fun, this album will strike a chord with anyone who listens to it. One of Jimmy's best!!

Jimmy Does It Again!!

Just when you think Jimmy Buffett could not come up with another original song he goes and puts together an album like this. He has infused his trademark tropical sound with some country and rockabilly and has produced songs that are all unique in their style but somehow blend together to make this a very enjoyable listening experience. Sit back, relax, pop a cold one and be very thankful that everyone's favorite pirate is still sailing on.

Jimmy Buffett translated his easygoing Gulf Coast persona into more than just a successful recording career — he expanded into clothing, nightclubs, and literature — but the basis of the business empire that kept him on the Fortune magazine list of highest-earning entertainers was his music. Born in southern Mississippi and raised in Alabama, Buffett moved to Nashville to try to make it in country music in the late '60s. After signing to the Barnaby label, he released one album, 1970's...
