iTunes Review

Trail of Dead needed to form their own record label in order to release their own complicated music. This isn’t always easy music for radio play, but it's an elaborate, expansive exploration of genres and the band’s instrumental abilities. “Pure Radio Cosplay” and “Summer of All Dead Souls” have the hooks embedded in the band’s DNA code, with a sense of the elasticity they developed way back on Source Tags & Codes. “Fall of the Empire,” “The Wasteland” and “Spiral Jetty” follow with a sense of pastoral space travel. If horses could fly, this would be the music for them, rich as it is in taking the slower lane to the galaxy. The pauses and breaks are as intriguing as the verses and choruses. “Weight of the Sun (Or the Post-Modern Prometheus)” is more like an old drinking-at-sea song. “Ebb Away” has the histrionics of classic and arena rock in its arsenal, but Trail of Dead put them to progressive uses that climax with the mania of “The Fairlight Pendant” and the multi-parted, sixteen-and-a-half-minute “Tao of the Dead, Pt. Two: Strange News from Another Planet.”

Phenomenal

What a long strange journey its been for ...And You Will Know Us by The Trail Of Dead; A band that seemingly reinvents itself with each new album. Tao Of The Dead finds head-Dead member Conrad Keely channeling his prog-rock affectations into a remarkably cohesive set of songs that works best when listened to as two epic song cycles. Tao Of The Dead Part I is so good that at nearly forty minutes it almost feels too brief - you're almost tempted to hit the replay button once the final notes of "The Fairlight Pendant" trail off into the ether... thankfully that lingering is quickly satiated by the equally impressive sixteen and half minute "Strange News From Another Planet," a song that moves from roaring punk anthems to beautiful, shimmering soundscapes almost in the same breath. It all adds up to one fantastic listening experience. I can't recommend this album highly enough.

Tao of the Trail of Dead

Another Classic from the unique masters of creative alternative rock, ...the Trail of Dead are back, and back with a vengeance!
From the cool opening of "Introduction" to "Pure Radio Cosplay", the guitars are back, and the lyrics have poison tongued approach. "Summer of All Dead Souls" is a blast and explosion of drums and guitar that only the Trail of Dead can pull off, simply great Rock! I will admit it gets a little iffy until the flash and pow of "Weight of the Sun" explodes into your ears with just over 2 minutes of perfect rock drama. But the standout and jewel of Tao of the Dead is "Ebb Away", a great sounding rock kaleidoscope for the ears. Still trying to get through the 16 and a half minutes of Tao of the Dead, Pt Two, but as albums go, this one is a Great Return to glory for the great ..Trail of Dead.

What music needs today!

Freaking runs over all that kesha and rap crap! Keep it up AYWKUBTTOTD! Great album, already my favorite!

...And You Will Know Us by the Trail of Dead were formed in late 1994 by singers/guitarists/drummers Jason Reece and Conrad Keely, longtime friends who originally met in Hawaii before settling in the perennial indie hotbed of Olympia, WA, where Reece drummed for the notorious Mukilteo Fairies.
