Though Elvis and Carl Perkins found greater commercial success with their style, Johnny Burnette & The Rock N’ Roll Trio will be remembered by connoisseurs the world over as the ‘50s’ finest purveyors of whiskey-soaked rockabilly abandon. They remain best known for “The Train Kept a Rollin’,” a hellacious slice of fuzz-soaked hillbilly blues immortalized by the Yardbirds, Aerosmith and others, but Burnette's legacy extends beyond the considerable impact of this one track. Though Burnette’s recordings lack some of the musical dynamism of the sides coming out of Sun Studios at the time, few recordings of any era can match tunes like “Rockabilly Boogie” and “Lonesome Train (On a Lonesome Track)” for sheer ferociousness. Paul Burlison’s deep-fried rockabilly guitar runs are truly a wonder to behold, while Johnny’s brother Dorsey Burnette’s joyously slapped-out bass riffs remain incredibly infectious. Though Johnny Burnette would disband the Rock N’ Roll Trio in 1957, in the hopes of pursuing a career as a defanged pop icon, these sides remain his finest work.

Johnny Burnette Tear It Up
This guy was the MAN! He definitely knew how to Tear It Up! If you love pure, Hell raisin' rockabilly music, you gotta check this guy out! In my opinion, he's better than Elvis, and as far as I know, he never made any cheesy movies. I heard a story that said Johnny Burnette went to Rickey Nelson's house and waited for him to get home. When Rickey arrived, Johnny pulled out his guitar and showed him some original tunes and intimidated the heck outta Rickey, which inspired Mr. Nelson to put Johnny into contact with some recording dudes. Johnny's original version of "Train Kept a Rollin" is heavy as a ton of lead. A lot harder hitting than the Aerosmith cover, and they did it with no studio tricks, or big noisy drum sets. This is pure rockabilly at it's source. Wine Spo-Dee-O-Dee is a classic tune that many have covered. I heard another story that names Johnny Burnette as the man who coined the phrase Rock A Billy, with his awesome tune Rock a Billy Boogie. I heard that Johnny had two sons, Rocky and Billy, who used to dance like crazy while the listened to their dad playing his tunes at home. Supposedly, the original title of the song was "Rocky and Billy Boogie". But who knows if that's true. One thing is for certain, Johnny's music was true and pure, and the hardest hitting guy in the music biz back in the day!

The rock n roll trio made history when they signed with coral records in mid 1956. With this CD you get all the recordings of Johnny Burnette's awesome vocals, the slapping rhythm of Dorsey Burnette's stand up bass, and the twang and hellraisin licks from Paul Burlison's telecaster. Not only were they among the godfathers of rock n roll music, but also some of the first musicians to use distortion by yanking the amp's power cords so that they were dangling out of the sockets. You can here this awesome tone if you listen to the guitar on Honey Hush and Train Kept a Rollin. These guys are sooo underrated and not to mention, a lot more talented than Elvis Presley, or even Jerry Lee Lewis. So pay some homage to these gods of rock n roll and get the complete coral recordings.
Best Rockabilly EVER!!
OK boys and girls, this is what rockabilly is supposed to sound like. Play "Please Don't Leave Me" a couple times real loud then go listen to the new Brian Setzer record. Hear the difference? If not please proceed to the nearest record store and buy Limp Bizkit's Greatest Hits.
