iTunes Review
Tell Me What You Know (1997) is the album Sara Groves fans have been hoping for: a fully realized expression of the Christian singer/songwriter’s commitment to human rights, served up with the most dynamic and emotionally resonant music of her career. Groves’ work has long displayed an intelligence and eclecticism. Her voice – sweet-toned, with a hint of twang – makes up for its lack of grit with mellifluent phrasing and an aching edge. What sets this release apart is the tough-minded subject matter of its songs. Many of the tunes were inspired by Groves’ relief work in Katrina-ravaged Louisiana and visits with exploited Third World women and children. The harrowing stories she heard give weight to tracks like “In the Girl There’s a Room,” “Say a Prayer” and “I Saw What I Saw.” She embellishes these tales of oppression and hope with simmering New Orleans rhythms and stately acoustic piano. Inspirational pop/rock anthems (“Love is Still a Worthy Cause,””When the Saints”), down-home praise numbers (“You Are Wonderful”) and heartfelt maternal expressions (“Song for My Sons”) are equally strong. Impressive from start to finish, Tell Me What You Know speaks with eloquence and deserves to be heard beyond the confines of Christian music.

Another brilliant album!
Sara Groves has done it again.. but is anyone suprised? Many artists have one or maybe two excellent albums which all of the other CDs in their career are compared to. But with Sara, I don't think I could name one album of hers better than the others. She is so consistent in creating provoking lyrics and catchy meldodies. When you've produced as much music as Sara Groves, it's hard not to start sounding repetitvie or to just steal your own old material and call it new. This CD still maintains Sara's friendly up lifting sound, but she makes more interesting rhythmic and melodic choices here which keep the sound fresh. In Tell Me What You Know she takes some musical risks with In The girl There's A Room, Abstraction, and the closing track You Are Wonderful. I have to say it's her most instantly likeable CD without being predictable or too "pop-y." Standout tracks are When the Saints, Song for My Sons, In the girl There's a Room and I Saw What I Saw. Sara is one of the only artists who I can listen to hundreds of times and still be moved by what she has to say. Every listen is new and inspiring. Tell Me What You Know is simply another wonderful addition to her brilliant work. Buy it!!!
Simply Beautiful
This is a very beautiful album. I love all the songs, but my favorites are Love Is Still a Worthy Cause, When the Saints, I Saw What I Saw, and It Might Be Hope. I believe this is Sara's best album yet, and yes I do have all of the other ones. :) Sara, you have outdone yourself with this one. You bring a beautiful light to these dark times.
Another Masterpiece
I have always been moved by the honest and sincere music that Sara Groves produces. This CD successfully brings forth the burdens that this world is facing, but is quick to point out that through tragedy stems hope. The Lord's love shines through the lyrics and the heart of the artist.
