Album Review

Guttermouth's snot-nosed punk attack takes aim at fish-in-a-barrel targets like hippies ("Trinket Trading, Tick Toting, Toothless, Tired, Tramps"), vegetarians ("Mark's Ark"), and suburbanites ("A Day at the Office") with juvenile tastelessness on Teri Yakimoto. They're trying so hard to be NOFX that it's hard to take them seriously, but the album shows that the members of Guttermouth do have chops and the ability to write the occasional hook, skills that would help them find their own identity in the future.

What?

..."tastelessness"? No, what iTunes puts on their commercials is tastelessness. Uninventive, tastelessness. I challenge people to find a more inspiring punk band to show that punk should be offensive and opinionated, so just because someone else's piece of art doesn't leave a good taste in your mouth (pun intended) doesn't mean it's tasteless. I'd bet money the critic above is a hippie...a smelly hippie. Enjoy your biased job faceless music "critic" for iTunes!

Real Honest Punk Rock

Trying to be like Nofx? Get out of the library and go see some shows. This album is Guttermouth's raw punk rock at its finest. Punk rock should be blue collar, angry, and subversive and this album is.

Lets say that this album is okay. I love this band, but I think they have better albums (Friendly People). I'm not interested in rating guttermouth albums. I want to talk to the guy who works at i-tunes! Why do you compare every modern punk band to NOFX? Saying that guttermouth is trying to be like NOFX is retarded. This band is nothing like NOFX. Go back to punk rock high cool guy. Stick to reviewing AC/DC albums or whatever. Your punk rock insight leaves a little to be desired.

Huntington Beach, CA-based punks Guttermouth formed in 1989, comprised of vocalist Mark "Mercury" Adkins, guitarists Derek Davis and Scott Sheldon, bassist Stever Rapp (who replaced original bassist Clint Weinrich), and drummer Captain James T. Nunn. Debuting a year later with the single "Puke," Guttermouth issued their debut LP, Full Length, in 1992, followed in 1994 by Friendly People, their first effort for new label Nitro Records.
