iTunes Review
Megadeth’s lucky 13th studio album brings founding members Dave Mustaine and bassist Dave Ellefson together for the first time in 10 years. This reunion ensures the band is true to its roots. Enthusiasm reigns in the fresh grooves of the Al Capone–inspired “Public Enemy No. 1,” where the solos are both dexterous and heavily melodic. Megadeth has always been a cut above the metal crowd, and tracks such as “Sudden Death,” “We the People,” and “Guns, Drugs & Money” growl with both forward-moving riffs and a sense of hard rock history. The group’s roots in Dio, Alice Cooper, Montrose, Judas Priest, and others can be heard in its assurance and sense of ambition. Where other shredders often lose sight of the tune, Megadeth never sacrifices melody at the expense of speed or heaviness. “New World Order” is futuristic and classic. “Black Swan” carefully sculpts its riff to bring out the best in the rhythm section. Megadeth’s members are experienced pros who can run circles around the competition in their sleep. That the group still adheres to the standards of excellence it invented 25-plus years ago is the reason it’s still the band to beat.
Customer Reviews
Solid and Enjoyable
A 25 year Megadeth fan, the tracks on the album are catchy and metal. Listeners will find the style unmistakable and the mix is solid. Album highlights are Black Swan, Fast Lane, Never Dead, We the People, and Whose Life. Die hard Megadeth fans will recognize a few tunes from previous b-sides but the remixes are good if not as fresh as some of the other songs. The mix is solid within car, headphones and laptop speakers (which is challenging). Kudos to the producers. The vocals are a bright and more pronounced than previous albums. Lyrics are strong and less cliché than some other songs of previous albums. Thanks to all the guys in Megadeth for consistently delivering new material for the fans. Keep it coming.
Oh no
Another disappointment in the world of what used to be Megadeth. Stop trying so hard to sell to a non-existent radio audience and put together something not full of drone like melodies. Get the fire in your belly and unleash the Megadeth upon the world we used all love and respect Dave. Or at least get Rick Rubin to produce your new record in the future. Signed concerned metal fan.
Megadeth is back!
That's right METAL fans, MEGADETH is back with a brand new album. First ANTHRAX, now MEGADETH, hopefully SLAYER and METALLICA will get the message and release new albums themselves.
It is a great day for METAL fans everywhere.
