iTunes Review

Tha Carter II is to Lil Wayne what Supreme Clientele is to Ghostface. Wayne had always maintained a unique style, and had made memorable, even classic, recordings in years past but Tha Carter II broke the mold. Sudenly Wayne was taking risks in his rhymes, experimenting with his voice and his cadences, using stream-of-consciousness wordplay that was at times incisive, at times incomprehensible, but never less than stimulating. Without the futuristic stutter-stepping sounds of estranged Cash Money producer Mannie Fresh, Wayne became tuned into a more soulful sound that seemed to bring out the best in his personality. Songs like “Receipt” and “Hustler Musik” embrace the moans and sweet strings of classic Seventies R&B, while the sublime “Shooter,” which unfolds in layers and hushed climaxes, bears little resemblance to typical rap song structure. As Wayne explains, “Then they ask who when where how / And my reply was simply POW!” Tha Carter II was the beginning of a whole new chapter for this New Orleans youngster, and the first time we started believing him when he proclaimed himself “the best rapper alive.”

JAW-DROPPING!!!!

This album will soon be recognized as one of the most influential southern rap albums of the last decade. Lil' Wayne has done the impossible, and topped his masterpiece, The Carter. I thought the loss of Manny Fresh would greatly hurt the quality of this album, I STAND CORRECTED. The production is extraordinary, overall blockbuster! I highly recommend it.

Tha Carter II-Lil' Wayne

Tha Carter gained mainstream success with some good singles and now Weezy F. Baby is back. Tha Mobb: Soulful production as Wayne just releases what's on his mind, no hook 5 min. of rhymes. 3.5/5 Fly In: I loved this beat, it appears two more times later, Wayne speaks to those haters and he has some crazy lines. 4/5 Money On My Mind: Street banger that has some spooky synths and organs, Wayne tears it up. 4/5 Fireman: Banger with busy drums, Wayne spits pure fire. 4.5/5 Mo Fire: Wasn't feelin the reggae flavored track, skip. 2.5/5 Best Rapper Alive: Jammin guitars are assisting in this boasting, Wayne shows you why he's one of the best. 4/5 Lock & Load: Sneaky feel to it, Kurupt assists on the hook. 3/5 Oh No: Great sample, Wayne does what he does. 3.5/5 Grown Man: Nice change, a smooth love track that's relaxful. 4/5 Hit Em Up: Hard hitting threat, average. 3/5 Carter II: Another great freestyle, best of the three. "stop throwin pebbles at a bulletproof glass". 4/5 Hustler Musik: Soulful production, Wayne does a great job and the vibe of this track is a nice difference from his hardcore style. 4.5/5 Receipt: Another soul sample, Wayne does a little storytelling. 3.5/5 Shooter: Robin Thicke-Wayne collab, solid track. 3.5/5 Weezy Baby: Skipper. 2.5/5 I'm A DBoy: Great collab with Birdman. 4/5 Feel Me: Similar to Slim Thug's "The Interview" same style. 3.5/5 Get Over: Soulful and the reflective track, nice. 3/5 Fly Out: Solid finish. 4/5 Wayne once again packs another disc with rhymes, nearly 80 min. of music (78). Lyrically he is getting better and better, aside from some filler, he has hot bangers (Money On My Mind, Fireman, I'm A DBoy) and then some crossover flavored tracks (Shooter, Grown Man, Hustler Musik). Great album. Rating 8 out of 10

Tha Dude Gargles Gumbo, Spits Jambalaya...

I dunno how the public gonna take this one, but to me its fire the whole way through. I love my man's flow, I don't care if he got it from Jay or what. He gets on more different styles of beats on this album, and he shows he can spit any way. Best tracks: Tha Mobb, The Interludes (Fly In, Carter II, Fly Out), Mo Fire, Best Rapper Alive, Hustler Musik, Receipt, Feel Me. His verses are off the top of his head a lot of times, or at least done in one take. Lil' Wayne is sick. Don't sleep on him. If you are doubtin', cop the SQAD mixtapes, and the Young Money Mixtape.
