iTunes Review
This “Greatest Hits” collection from one of the more conventional — and therefore, controversial — bands of the 1990s alternative rock movement is a solid blast of powerful, undeniably catchy hard rock. Coming at a time when bands were expected to disown their desire for commercial radio interests, STP threw up monster riffs that thrilled arena rock patrons and aspiring guitarists alike. Their earliest material does echo the sound of Nirvana and especially Pearl Jam, yet the hard rock powerchord rumble of “Sex Type Thing,” the downtrodden vibe of “Creep,” the wide-open cruising feel of “Interstate Love Song” and the shifting big rock dynamics of “Big Empty” stand on their own. Guitarist Dean DeLeo’s ability to distill the band’s essence into resounding riffs cannot be dismissed, while Scott Weiland’s vocal prowess is far more engaging and versatile than initially expected, and the band easily explored a variety of styles, culminating in the glam-rock frenzy of “Big Bang Baby.” While angst may have fueled the writing, a sense of fun served the performances.

This is the best they ever made, i think the only song they MIGHT have left out is dead and bloated. this is a CD you can listen to the whole way through; very rare these days. Here's a full review: Vasoline- One of the best songs they made, you like this right away 10/10 Down- An awesong song with a great guitar. if you don't buy the whole CD, This is a good song to buy on its own. 10/10 Wicked Garden-Greag song, goes on a little long though. 9/10 Big Empty- A song so wierd that even wierd people think its wierd. Sweet chorus. 9/10 Plush- I liked this song so much, I bought it before i had enough money to buy the CD 10/10 Big Bang Baby- nice vocals. 9/10 Creep-This is a song you should like because of the lyrics. Kind of screwy. 9/10 Lady Picture Show- In this song, you can tell these guys looked up to the beatles. I don't know why, but this is my least favorite on the cd. 8/10 Trippin' On a Hole...- A song With no weak points, but no strong points other than the guitar solo.9/10 Interstate Love Song- Incredible. Another song I bought on its own. 10/10 All in the Suit...- Another great song to listen to over and over. 10/10 Sex Type Thing- A song to listen to if you have immediate "needs" LOL 10/10 Days of the Week-No weak points, but no strong points either. 9/10 Sour girl- Another Beatles- induced song. Good nonetheless. 9/10 Plush(acoustic)- I was considering buying this as a single before I bought the CD. Just as good, if not better than its counterpart.10/10 The Album- A must buy for anyone.10/10
How come so few people have heard of this band?
Almost all rock fans i know have never heard of this band. (new rock fans, old rock fans, and even big fans of music from the 90s who say they know all there is to know about the bands) How can anyone not have heard a band that has sold 40 millions records. I mean of course i know a lot of people at the age of like 23-35 who have heard of them, but very few my age 14-17 that have heard of them. If you do not have an album of STP and wish to get one this is a good place to start, but as you buy all the albums you'll understand how unique this band is with each record. True rock n roll legends.
One of the best alternative bands ever
STP is up there with Nirvana, Smashing Pumpkins, Soundgarden, Pearl Jam, etc. as one of the best alternative bands. Vasoline- Great opening song. Second best song on the album. Down- STP's heaviest song. Insanely cool. Wicked Garden- Sure it's more of a AIC song, but it still is catchy and was a radio hit. Big Empty- First STP song I ever heard. Good driving song. Plush- STP's most famous song. I personally feel like the song is dragged on a bit, when it stops and then comes back after 5 seconds, but nonetheless, it is still a great song. Grunge classic. Big Bang Baby- This is when STP went sort of "poppy" and "glam". Still great song. Creep- Coolest song here. I love the chorus. "I'm half the man I used to be..." Lady Picture Show- Pretty good. Not nearly as good as the other songs, but still is a noteworthy song. Trippin' on a Hole in a Paper Heart- My favorite STP song. Unbelievably cool. Interstate Love Song- Like the review says, a great highway song. Very catchy. All in the Suit That You Wear- Great song that sounds as good as the earlier stuff Sex Type Thing- Great riff. A very good grunge song. Days of the Week- Ehh...a hit and miss affair Sour Girl- Great pop tune, sounds like nothing else STP plays One more thing- Where is "Dead and Bloated"?
