An amazing work of art
On That Sea, The Gambler, Isakov effortlessly proves that he can take on the wide world of indie folk, and that he can hold his own like few in his class. It's amazing, the way such a gentile and quiet voice can penetrate the spirit with such potent lyricism and masterfully minimal instrumentation. While listening, every track seems to be the best on the album, beginning to end. That Sea is to be listened to before sleep, in a bustling city, or atop a silent mountain. Truly a masterpiece. Buy this album.
Great Find
I recently peeked into the Walnut Room (a venue here in Denver) and got to hear a few songs from this man. You could hear a pin drop in that room. Isakov is an incredibly talented writer, and I was immediately captivated by both his unassumingly entrancing guitar compositions and his smoky, almost scotchy voice - that's right, scotchy - that's the kind of voice that hits your ears creating what can be known only as an eargasm, then, after making out with your brain and promising to call tomorrow, it spills off into the rest of your body in a slow, molasses-like decent that creates one of those rare moments that reiterates the fact that there is an endless well of fantastic, dream-like, possibly life-changing music if we simply take the time to draw from it. Yeah, I'm a big fan.
beautiful and mysterious.
this album is mysterious and melodic. I have been mesmerized by its smoky lullabies since I first got my hands on it. let gregory sing you into dreamtime while he shows you his deepest heart. beautiful, beautiful!
