Stunning
Amazing score. JW does it again--I hear a lot of similarities in this soundtrack with his HP 3 soundtrack. "Presenting Bianca Castafiore" is actually Renee Fleming's interpretation of Charles Gounod's "Je Veux Vivre" from his opera "Romeo and Juliette," which I widh they gave credit it for, but still--Awesome soundtrack and awesome movie!!
Multi-faceted
Although the album has John Williams written all over it, there's a plethora of themes here. From the Unicorn's mysterious yet simple theme to Snowy's playful theme to the Thompson's humorous theme to Haddock's robust theme. The list goes on. As John Williams always does, he incorporates the themes perfectly into action scenes in the film, which is certainly a Williams trademark by now.
Two pieces are refreshingly non-traditional Williams: "The Milanese Nightingale" and "Presenting Bianca Castafiore," which could quite easily be mistaken for a different composer's work! But Williams has the talent and audacity to compose such nice pieces. Unfortunately, "Milanese" is a little short but "Presenting" lasts a little longer, with the theme incorporated ever so slightly in the very next track as well before turning over to typical Williams action cues.
Overall, a gift for Williams fans. This and 'War Horse' are fantastic scores sure to be recognized at upcoming awards ceremonies next year. Hopefully, at least one is recognized at the Oscars.
