Melody Over Flash
A lot of modern guitar playing focuses on pretty repeating arpeggios which make for beautiful background music. Often, however, you can't find a melody with a telescope. That's not a problem here. Baughman's tunes sound pretty, all right, but his focus is on great melodies. Guitarists will be interested in his clawhammer technique and might well head for "the woodshed" to work on it. I'm giving it 4 stars instead of 5 because the album shifts gears about 2/3 through and brings in singing. There's nothing wrong with the singing, but it shifts the focus and is not quite up to the solo guitar section.
