iTunes Review
On its third studio album, Casting Crowns continues to confront the doubts and fears of ordinary believers without flinching. The Alter And The Door (2007) offers bracing sermons and searing jeremiads without losing the light of hope. Lead singer/songwriter Mark Hall gives special attention to the shortfall between Sunday worship and weekday faith, dissecting spiritual weakness and self-deception with a well-honed lyric scalpel. “Slow Fade” and the title track portray the small but deadly compromises that afflict even the faithful, and Hall personalizes this theme in “Somewhere In The Middle,” a confession of his own inner battles. The band’s penchant for sweeping themes comes through in “Every Man” (a wide-angle portrait of typical Americans) and “What This World Needs” (a slashing attack on modern-day false prophets). Musically, they veer from pummeling guitar bursts to atmospheric piano settings, with an occasional nod to the Beatles, Coldplay and other influences. Words and music both serve a clear-cut purpose — this is one Christian release that doesn’t aim for the mainstream by blurring its message. Rocking hard and praying harder, Casting Crowns delivers the goods yet again on The Alter And The Door.
Customer Reviews
They've done it again...
It must be tough to produce music that is both appealing and full of truth, but Casting Crowns has been blessed with that gift. "What the world needs" opens the album solidly reminding us that the gospel lives on its own and nothing should be added or taken away. "The word is alive" brings about an urge to dive right into the bible. And "Prayer for a friend" reminds me of all the times I was on my knees for the ones I loved who would not listen. "The Alter and the Door" is an excellent description of the christian walk as it is today. Praise God!!!
The Altar and the Door! An instant classic
I just bought the Album from iTunes, and wow, there are some great songs on this new release. East to West is already a classic, in my humble opinion. What This World Needs has an edgy rock sound, and there are more songs on this CD with a great sounding rock beat, somewhat of a new direction for this group. I highly recommend this to not only Casting Crowns fans, but to anyone who wants to be uplifted by some great lyrics to go along with the new, but tremendous, rock sounds. There are also some tracks that retain the style that we all have come to love in their first two album releases. My wife and I love this group, and we are "spring chickens" of 59 and 54!
One of the Best albums of the Year (lyrically speaking)
Casting Crowns once again creates a beafutiful and amazing album. The lyrics are incredible, they hit hard subjects like thier earlier albums did. Each song is outstanding and i don't know what else to say. Buy this album you will not regret it.
