iTunes Review
Though the copyright says 2007, it wouldn’t be hard imagining this album as a lost treasure from 1974; its lush grooves and old-school soul flourishes — shadowing backing vocals, cinematic orchestrations — bring alive R&B’s golden era with a few quick shots of funk. The beats tilt towards modernity. “Make It Last” uses a melodic loop that recalls hip-hop’s smoothest potential. But it’s the duets with Betty Wright (“Baby”) and James Ingram (“My People”) that highlight this collection that Stone recorded at Marvin Gaye’s Los Angeles recording studio. This South Carolina diva knows her history and wrote and co-produced most of the material here for her most intimate album to date. This is the sound of a young woman trapped in an old soul’s mind and body. She reveres an inner peace (“Happy Being Me” with Pauletta Washington), treasures her leisure (“Play Wit It”) and immerses herself in gospel roots and expert harmony compositions (“Go Back to Your Life”). Stone captures an admirable balance between pop and soul, past and present, never losing her voice in the process.

I just don't understand ...
Please, tell me why such a PHENOMENAL talent like Angie Stone exist, yet the world has yet to give her the credit she deserves?!? Angie is REAL SOUL music, y'all! Recognize! Angie is the REAL DEAL .. Not the tweeny, whisper-singers, who dance more than they sing, biting Janet Jackson choreography to cover their lack of talent. (Yeah, Ciara, I'm lookin' at you.) Not the Barbie-doll pretty lead singers from defunct big groups, who decided they looked too good to be in a group, so they went solo (only to Suk! Yeah, Nicole Scherzinger, Fergie and Gwen Stefanie, I'm lookin' at you.) Not the diva-wannabes who hire Timbo, Pharrell, Jazze Pha and other Hip-POP rappers to produce their track and make them sound like something. (Yeah Rihanna, I'm lookin' at you.) NOT these wannabes ... But Angie STONE. ANGIE IS SOUL MUSIC. I just don't understand why Angie is being slept on. Actually, I do understand. It's because Angie FORCES us to focus on her talent, since she is not concerned about us watching her brea$t or waist size. Buy this album. You may not get your 12-year old to admit he/she likes it, because it wasn't released with 3 remixed versions featuring T-Pain, Akon, or Soulja Boy. But deep down, they're feelin' it too. And as for YOU, you mature, seeker of REAL SOUL music ... you'll love it! (My favorite is Pop Pop # 12.) Angie, you've done a great job on this project. My wife and I (and the babies we'll make while listening to your music) thank you. I do understand.
Go Angie!
Angie Stone is back! This has to be one of the hottest R & B albums out to date. Angie is doing her thing as usual; if you're a fan you will NOT be disappointed. Besides Tracks 2 & 3, Track 12 has to be the hottest Track! With "The Art of Love & War," you could put it on and let it play from start to finish--now how many albums can you say that about today?! Great new album
She has a great voice. Her songs are very soulful, and if you like SWV or Sade you might like this album. The best songs are Take Everything In, Baby, Make It Last, and Happy Being Me. But the best song is Pop Pop.
