Penniless Doesn't Equate With Destitute
I have been following Penniless for a few years now, and I must say I love their punchy, upbeat and melodic style. The newest issue does not disappoint in any particular characteristic expected from Penniless, but the Attraction seems to take a more "emo" tack from the past "post-mod punk" offerings, i.e., "Chemical" or "I Started a War," which appear to be their biggest sellers. Still, this album is rich in varied tempos and styles, and has the a great deal of the driving crunch and thud I look for. This is not the strongest offering by Penniless, but it is a very worthy purchase, nonetheless.

Originally formed under the moniker "The Penniless People of Bulgaria," these guys actually emerged out of a small town in Finland called Nakkila in 1991. Consisting of Pekka Alisaari (vocals/guitar), Kimmo Kurittu (bass), Lasse Alisaari (drums), and Mikko Pere (guitar), Penniless debuted their first album, Mould, on their own Penni Records not too long after getting together.
