With more than 200 million albums sold worldwide, Mariah Carey is one of the most popular performers of all time. She’s had an amazing 18 #1 hits in her career to date, a Billboard charts record for a solo artist as of early 2009, and this collection contains nine of those, including a few of her better duets. Carey has released other best-of collections before, but this one is unique in that it focuses on one specific aspect of her long career, which may be exactly what some fans are looking for. Separating out the ballads like this highlights Carey’s considerable range — and that’s not a reference to her legendary ability to cleanly reach five octaves. By not including any of her bouncy R&B hits, up-tempo dance floor grooves, or hip hop-inflected numbers, her ability to deliver a chills-inducing ballad really comes across, and these songs are an ideal showcase for her stunning vocal control. All of these songs have been released before, with the exception of “Hero,” which was re-recorded especially for this collection.

The Ballads
Don't get me wrong, I am a huge MC fan; But this record is pointless...it's the same songs that are on her Greatest Hits her Number 1's...I mean she is just releasing things just to be releasing them! A true fan will already have these songs....what she should have done was put some new ballads with these then maybe I would have bought it. But it's a waste of time!
What a great collection and released on historic day!!!
This album contains some of Mariah's best ballads by the greatest, most successful female artist of all time!!!! This includes 9 #1 hits, and is well rounded with important songs in her career. Every album other than her IDJ albums are represented effectivly and is a solid collection. No one can resist Mariah's voice, and her ballads are something she is known for, especially the first track, Hero. Any Mariah fan will be very pleased with its content and flow of the album. This is also a historic release as we swear in our 44th President, his Inauguration is Today!!! This is a must buy for anyone who appreciates amazing, meaningful ballads. I appreciate Mariah Carey for her contribution and love for music, and this is a perfect day to release such an inportant day in America!!! God bless America!!! This album is worth the buy!!!
The Ballads
This is a great collection of SOME of Mariah's best ballads. This certainly has the classics (ie, "Hero," "Vision of Love," and "My All") The problem is that this is a Columbia-released album, which means none of the ballads from her new record label ("Charmbracelet", "The Emancipation of Mimi" or "E=MC2") are here. This leaves out one of her biggest ballads to date ("We Belong Together") as well as some over-looked gems ("My Saving Grace," "Bringin' on the Heartbreak"). In my opinion, this is a pretty good collection of her Columbia releases (as well as "Reflections," which was released through Virgin). However, there are a couple of ballads I think should have been included: "Till the End of Time," "All I Ever Wanted," "Underneath the Stars," and "When I Saw You" are hardcore fan favorites that could have benifited from a re-release. That being said, this is still a great collection of Mariah Ballads. 20 tracks plus 3 music videos is well worth the price for those who don't own her previous CDs. Unfortunately, there are no unreleased bonus songs. Hopefully one day, Mariah and/or Columbia will release a CD filled will her best live performances and B-sides.
