Album Review
Polecats shape their pompadours in a crypt. Greatest and Latest is the creepy side of rockabilly, but their greaser spookiness is more classic rockabilly than the Cramps. In the thin, trebly fuzz of the drums and guitar, they share an affinity with early, technologically desperate gothic groups like a T. Rex-inspired Bauhaus demo. This release is an overview of their sound, inspired by ghoulish B-movies and pre-rock hillbilly-swing. The Polecats are like the Misfits with no low-end and a singer that trades Elvis for Gene Vincent. Lead vocalist Tim Polecat went on to 13 Cats, a rockabilly revival supergroup featuring Slim Jim Phantom (the Stray Cats) on drums.

THE POLECATS LIVE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Damn this album brings back good memories... I was a polecat wannabe when I was a kid myself. Their album "Polecats are a go" is a gem and if you ever see it on vinyl in somebody's garage sale FOR GOD'S SAKE BUY IT!!!!! There are plenty of classic Polecats songs missing in this compilation, the biggest omission is "Jeepster," the Polecats' cover of the T-Rex song. Also missing are "Juvenile delinquents from a planet near mars," "Baby doll," "Don't cry baby," and "Little Pig." "Make a circuit with me" is their best known song in the US, but it is by no means their best. The Polecats were a wet dream come true for a little gay boy like myself, not because they were cute but because you could look fabulous and still be a tough cookie, plus you could dance your butt off all night long... Priceless!!!!
