Customer Reviews
So much awesome - a genius for our generation
Will Holland (aka Quantic) has a place in my record collection that very few composer/musicians hold. You have to go back many years to find someone this omnivorous, this perceptive, this diverse, and simply this talented. He brings a flavor (muy sabor!) to everything he touches. There really are no comparisons, but if I had to - I'd say David Byrne (for the love of world rhythms), Brian Eno (for using the studio as an instrument), Peter Gabriel (for the passion), and Ry Cooder (for the ability to bring his chops to work with every diverse project). For the restless, eclectic travel bug, I'd throw in the great acoustic guitarist Bob Brozman.
But it's 2011 - and Holland has the gift of a digital studio in a laptop and the jet-set DJ cultural perspective of making bodies move on dancefloors around the world. The aforementioned gurus never did that, nor did they crate-dig and knock on doors of old Panamanian and Colombian maestros, asking them to come play on his albums - recorded in his studio in Cali, Colombia.
Holland did, and does - and his story continues.
