Album Review

Silk were always a remarkable collection of voices that harmonized so well, and they could preach the gospel of the bedroom like no other. R. Kelly based a career on Silk's greatest moment, "Freak Me," but the band's albums could be patchy. The biggest problem is that Silk's greatest moments were always about lust and sex, so the collection is a bit limited in topic, but if you have candles and essential oils in your bedroom you might as well have this. Best Of adequately covers their Elektra years, which was when things were really happening, so you don't need to go much further. Despite having roots in the dated world of new jack swing, Best Of still sounds fresh and what their singles lacked in grabbing production they made up for with wonderful harmonies. "There's a meeting in my bedroom/So girl please don't be late" is a line few could deliver without sounding silly, but check the way the members interact on "Meeting in My Bedroom," and you'll be a convert. The old remix of "Freak Me" gets tacked on to the end of the disc and makes the collection even more desirable. Unless you're an R&B historian, you won't need another Silk album.

Customer Reviews

This album just freaks me.....

I love this album. I'm neither African-American, nor 35 years old or older. I'm Asian and I love R&B a lot. Anyways, this album brings back memories; especially the Freak Me song and video.

Only for Grown&Sexy over 35 years old.

Some guy on i-tunes says this is garbage he was looking for "Missy" and came across this album. This album is for the GROWN & SEXY, people over 35. Back in the day "Silk" was the R&B group of Hip-Hop. Many nights in my college days all you had to do was put in a Silk CD and it was on.... (If you couldn't get busy with your lady on this album then you had zero game). Old school people you know what I'm saying. Boyee! this brought back some memories. Attention: If you are non-African American and under 35 don't buy this album you won't undersatnd.

Freak Me

I remember when this WAS the song, if you didn't have it on the "O's" just weren't the same

Biography

Formed: 1992 in Atlanta, GA

Genre: R&B/Soul

Years Active: '90s, '00s

This '90s R&B vocal group should not be confused with the late-'70s Philadelphia band, which was a funk-oriented unit, or the vocal trio Silk from Los Angeles. Timothy Cameron, Jimmy Gates, Jr., Jonathen Rasboro, Gary Jenkins, and Gary Glenn issued their debut LP, Lose Control, in 1992 and have excited urban contemporary audiences, particularly women, with their engaging harmonies and aggressively suggestive material. Their single "Freak Me" was...
