iTunes Review
Switchfoot’s path to pop stardom is laid out clearly on The Best Yet, an 18-track anthology overlooking few key moments in the band’s decade-plus recording history. Early compositions like “Company Car” and “Concrete Girl” prove that Jon Foreman’s formidable songwriting talents and the band’s sure feel for dynamics were present from the start. From “The Beautiful Letdown” through “Dare You to Move” and “Stars,” the group’s ability to craft mind-prodding, ear-grabbing radio hits is given full exposure. “This Is Home,” the yearning number first heard on the Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian soundtrack, brings things up to date. What remains consistent amidst the growth documented here is Switchfoot’s empathetic, all-embracing spiritual vision, one that doesn’t preclude them from being forceful or funny. This compilation is especially commended to those unfamiliar with the band’s lesser-known first two albums. But whether these songs are old favorites or new discoveries, The Best Yet is very good indeed.

Great introduction to Switchfoot!
For those of you who are new to the band, this is a great place to start. "The Best Yet" covers the band's biggest MTV/Top 40/Alternative radio hits like "Dare You to Move," as well as some of their earlier less popular material, like "Concrete Girl." However, there are no fillers in this album: all the songs are good. If you're a fan who's been around for awhile, this might not be for you. But hey, "This Is Home" is finally available as a single download, after being Album-only on the Narnia soundtrack for months. I recommend you get the song, as this is the radio edited version with full drums, fuller instrumental arrangement, and more prominent vocals; different significantly from the soundtrack version. All-in-all, a great introduction to a great band from San Diego. A great set-up for the new album coming early next year!
This is Home!
This is a great collection of Switchfoot, I like that they included some songs from their old albums like New Way To Be Human and Legend of Chin. I am really glad that iTunes finally has This is Home to purchase.
This is Home...
And it's finally where I belong, where I belong...I am so happy that I can now buy This is Home! I agonized for so long over the fact that, to get it, you had to buy the ENTIRE Prince Caspian soundtrack, which, I wasn't willing to pay ten, twelve dollars for one song, no matter how good. But then this CD popped up on the "What We're Listening To" tab on the homepage, I clicked on it, and...Boom! Everybody was buying This is Home, which is really a no-brainer. ;-) As for the rest of the CD, it's a good collection of songs, but some of the songs, like Concrete Girl, are early songs that never really did very well - for a reason. That was when Switchfoot was more pop than rock, and those songs (along the lines of Adding to the Noise) are very good songs, but can get repetitive in the music. So, my suggestion is to download Dare You to Move, Meant to Live, Stars, Oh, Gravity., This is Home, Awakening, This is Your Life, On Fire (although this is a slow song, so beware...), Lonely Nation, and The Shadow Proves the Sunshine. Which is almost the whole album, but that'll save you a few $0.99's. Those are my suggestions, but if you don't download anything else, get This is Home! It's a song anyone can enjoy, you won't regret it!
