Do the deathcore kings deserve their black crown?

The Cleansing and No Time To Bleed are what transitioned my musical tastes into heavy music, so when I first heard about The Black Crown, I was thrilled. I became even more excited when I saw the amazing album artwork and heard that Frank Mullen from Suffocation would be doing guest vocals, who is one of my favorite vocalists from one of my favorite bands. But then I heard "You Only Live Once"...and then "F**K Everything"...and my hopes dropped rapidly. Now I'm not a "metal purist" by any means: my first love was deathcore not death metal and I love breakdowns as much as I love blast beats. But I was highly dissapointed to learn that Suicide Silence, by far the most popular band in deathcore, couldn't breathe new life into the deathcore album with this release. The genre has become boring, and Suicide Silence emmulate this redundant deathcore formula down to every last detail: Cliche breakdowns and riffs accompanied by the occasional weak attempt at adding atmoshpere or ambience topped off by mediocre vocals that show no originality. But by far the worst part is the lyrics, which are some of the laziest excuses for songwriting I have ever heard. Mitch has never been a strong lyricist by any means but these songs' lyircs are simply atrocious. Overall, I would give this bettwen 0 and .5 stars if I could, which saddens me greatly. I sincerely hope their next release release is far better than The Black Crown, because this is one of the the worst deathcore records from one of the best bands in the genre.

Progession is a good thing

I love this album and im sick of hearing people complain about the new stuff, its called progression not repitition

Garbage

The cleansing was their best album and that still sucked balls

The band managed to get things rolling quickly, save for a few lineup changes, and went from formation to deal in a mere two years. In the meantime, Suicide Silence issued one pre-deal EP — the simply titled Suicide Silence — which saw the light of day on indie labels At the Deep End and...
