Evolution

As a fan of Lisa's entire career (DCD & solo) I expect surprises and am accustomed to the groundbreaking efforts to evolve as an Artist. This however is in fact something quite unexpected, different even for an Artist for whom different is the norm. At first the style seemed uncharacteristic, perhaps more than a little, but after listening with an open mind (it's easy at this point) it seems like a natural progression from some of the newer work heard in "Silver Tree" and "Sanctuary". It does definitely stand out however. I really couldn't have imagined where some of these songs would go until now.

Fresh. Contemporary(ish), updated for sure. Darkly beautiful. Lovingly performed as usual. This works, but in unexpected ways. I'll not describe anything here further and deprive a true fan of a psychic shock or two. Lisa's voice seems a rare treat in these contexts.

Any curious fans should jump on this before it goes away...in fact I'm not so sure I'm awake right now and that any of this is really real, but there seems to be some environmental continuity, gravity is in effect and the digital clock is consistent...NOT a dream then!

Dark Beauty

I had the priviliage of seeing Lisa Gerrard in concert several years ago, and her performance was hypnotic, deeply moving, and spiritual. She has a voice like no other; it reaches into every cell in your body. Haunting, ethereal, otherworldly. I am so happy she FINALLY decided to release this album on iTunes. In Dead Can Dance and solo, Gerrard takes you to places you'll want to return to time and time again.

oh Lisa...

a few notes for any Lisa G fans...this recording you can actually understand her. yes, ever a cover is done well. really surprised to see "sleep" released on this recording. in 2003 she ended a live show at the paramount in CA with sleep. the entire audience was in aaww any many outright crying. I love this artist ! her work is intelligent, her career is so full, every recording I wait for and listen. thank you Lisa for the black opal. the black opal is nothing shy of 5 stars. you are feeling a bit creative i see...good for you.
enjoy

Genre: Soundtrack

Years Active: '90s, '00s

In collaboration with Brendan Perry, Lisa Gerrard is half of the duo Dead Can Dance, which started releasing arty goth rock on the 4AD label in the mid-'80s. Gerrard began her solo career with the 1995 release The Mirror Pool, which contained a lot of work that wouldn't fit comfortably into the DCD oeuvre. Combining these fragments with music that she composed and arranged digitally before reconfiguring them into scores that could be performed, it also draws on a composition by Handel and traditional...
