Album Review

The problem facing New Kids on the Block on their 2008 reunion, The Block, is the same one they had on their last album, 1994's Face the Music: they're no longer kids but don't quite know how to be adults. Now that all the members save Joey McIntyre are pushing 40, the group abandons sprightly bubblegum for youthful rhythm-driven club music. At their peak, NKOTB sang about puppy love, since their fans were almost entirely preteens too young to hear sticky songs of seduction, the kind that comprise the entirety of The Block. Draped in washes of chilly analog synths, chanting choruses, and brittle, skittish rhythms, The Block is a modernized New Kids.

the beat is fricken sweet and akon does a sample of it off his new aong clap again

So much more than I expected!!!

Though I am an NKOTB fan, I was really worried that their new album would not be all that. But let me tell you, their tunes are current and their vocals are better than ever. Even though they went the R&B style this time, they still stay true to their tunes. AMAZING ALBUM!!

Really Good...

NKOTB come back with a bang...It is a mix of modern with a hint of vintage...The production is on point...The album does not try and over reach but keeps within the element of NKOTB...not one song feels forced...I was expecting a bit more depth and complexity with the lyrics but they are still decent and are able to achieve within the music..."Big Girl Now", "Grown Man", and "Twisted", have some elements that made NKOTB famous in the 80's..."Full Service" featuring New Edition, is the highlight of the album...overall a really good album that proved they are able to hang with the ever changing sounds of music...

After his success with New Edition, producer Maurice Starr decided to replicate the singing group by substituting suburban white kids for the young black teenagers. The result was New Kids on the Block, a pioneering boy band that eclipsed the popularity of Starr's previous group while laying the groundwork for the teen pop boom of the late-'90s. During the New Kids' heyday, the group reportedly earned over one million dollars per week, and their string of hit singles — the bulk of which reinterpreted...
