A Bold Step Forward
Braddigan's new record, The Captive, is a bold step forward from his debut away from Dispatch, Watchfires, and the live album from last year. They said this is their first recording as a band (with Reinaldo on percussion and Tiago on bass) and it shows through the diversity of language and style. The 12 new songs (Customs and Fare Thee Well were previously recorded on the live record, but never before in the studio) feature reggae, rock, folk, instrumental and Braddigan's first vocal duet! The arrangements are stronger than ever, demonstrating the creative collaboration of world class musicians fusing melodies, harmonies, rhythms and instrumentations from around the world. The Captive is a phenomenal album with broad appeal -- comparisons to Paul Simon, Jack Johnson, and Bob Marley are not off-the-mark. If you're seeking content-laden lyrics and diverse musical stylings, this is for you!
I wish I could be as chill as braddigan
With the addition of Tiago on bass as well as Reinaldo de Jesus on percussion, Braddigan sounds better than ever. Not only is this chill style of reggae mellow and relaxing, it's also just plain smooth. His transitions are amazing and from the upbeat feel and awesome groove to the chill spine tingling effect that On the Mend and Mercedita brings. I think that viewers should keep an eye on Braddigan on tour and for future albums because his style seems to keep maturing as time goes on. The blend of culture in this CD is what really brings its concordant melody with its inspiring lyrics. Reinaldo de Jesus is SO adjuvant to the group. I wish I could play half as well as he does
It's Braddigan...what else is there to say?
He continues to progress and come into his own. Braddigan only gets better and better and better the more you dive into his music and the depth that he so eloquently orchestrates. I never thought I would say that there would ever be something better than Dispatch, but if this progress continues the impossible may, indeed, happen.
