Great Stuff
I don't have this album, but I have all of the albums these songs are compiled from. This is sort of a "greatest hits collection of JJ Grey and Mofro's tunes, two tunes from each of their 4 album releases, and one new tune: an acoustic rendition of Tupelo Honey. Mofro is often classified as a Jam Band, but this classification doesn't really fit, front porch soul, or southern swamp rock is a much more apropos description. JJ Grey and the band produce great, soulful, moving southern tinged rock. I am not usually a fan of this type of music but I have absolutely fallen in love with JJ Grey and Mofro's work, work that is clearly dredged from the depths of their souls. Highlights here are Lochloosa, The Sun is Shining Down, and Brighter days. Check out all of their work, you might just feel them tugging at your soul too.
Just a start
This album is just the tip of the iceburg. This band has produced some of the greatest music I've ever heard! Orange Blossoms is excellent as is Lochloosa. An unbelievable live band as well. I recommend this music to everyone I know.
A brilliant start.
If your ears have not been blessed with the presence of the voice of JJ Grey, please do yourself a favor and just check out this "greatest cuts" album. Your here checking this out for a reason just do it! It's the southern soul of old Stax and Muscle Shoals from a guy and a band who truly get their roots. Great stuff!!! I can't wait for the new album.
