Great album
I really enjoy this album. "Tooth on the floor" is my favorite single. However, I do like the first album better, but that album, in my opinion, is amazing. Hard to compete with it. Overall though, I'd highly reccomend this album.
Close to perfection
Umbrella Tree is one of the most talented and creative bands out there. Whereas their first release channeled that creativity into a repertoire of quirky, stripped-down, and lyrically impressive tracks, "The Church and Hospital" displays that their talents for creating surprising music extends beyond songwriting and into the very process of production. The layering of textures on these tracks is just remarkable. If anything is lost in the process, it's the ability to hear the lyrics as clearly. And Umbrella Tree's lyric-writing is truly exceptional. Real appreciation of the album, then, requires listening with album jacket in hand.
