why the authentic Citadel is my favorite band...
This CD is just another reason why the true, original Citadel is my favorite band! I've seen many a Citadel concert and heard these songs in their more polished forms on later releases - but Citadel vocals, Citadel drums, Citadel guitars, Citadel bass, they all birthed a signature sound in this release that continues up to this day. Having visited Citadel in the studio, I can tell you that the upcoming release will also knock you for a curve or two - keep your eyes posted here on iTunes... On stage they rock like crazy, in the studio they make magic like wizards, in person they are kind yet mystical...surreal as the metaphors in their lyrics. Buy the Citadel Star Tracks and start your journey through one of the most indie, underground, unconventional and creative folk metal progressive experimental rock bands ever to survive 28 years WITHOUT a major label telling them what to play! The history of Citadel starts here...
This sounds great for being 30 years old and done on 4 and 8 track reel to reel tape recorders. Featuring the original members from the Citadel QFM concerts and album, you get the chance to hear Citadel's first self-produced release as a three piece. There are some keyboards here and there but mostly this CD is guitar classic rock, folk and progressive. The contrast between Stygian Barque (ballad with a quartet) and Schoolmaster (instrumental speed prog) highlights the thing I like most about this band, they don't care about much of anything except for making music that they enjoy playing and that listeners will enjoy hearing. This is a must for die hard Citadel fans and collectors since the CD comes in this crazy innovation that uses a single piece of paper as the case with lyrics and notes. Citadel calls it the Eco-Gami invention to reduce waste. Not only are they a band but they are also environmentally consious package designers!
