Good, but There Are Better Classical Adaptations

My problem with this is their use of non-traditional string instruments (guitar, sitar) and non-string instruments (tabla, flute). The Hampton String Quartet does a much better job with classic(al) rock. "Bouree" is almost a gimme because it was written by Johann Sebastian Bach ad re-arranged in 1969 by Ian Anderson. "Eleanor Rigby" is another gimme because the original is just strings with McCartney's vocals. (So is "Nights in White Satin" because the Moody Blues used strings in the original rather liberally.) Overall, it's a good album, granted I've heard better flutists, but there isn't a song on here that turned out bad.

Awesome

Coming from a fan of recharacterized Classic Rock, this album is great. Anyone who is a fan of the artists covered here should take a look. It's pretty cool.

The rationale behind this CD - Fun!!!

Just a couple of comments about the CD from one of the artists responding to some of the other reviews. . . Our objective in making this album was to come as close as we could to the original versions of some our favorite classic rock tunes with the instruments we play. The primary instrumentation of the group is flute, violin, viola & cello. There is no multitracking, so when any percussion or "other" string instrument is heard, one of us has put down our regular instrument to play the auxilliary. If you know the orginal tunes you can sing along -imagine yourself driving down the highway listining to a classic rock radio station. It was total a blast for us to work on this CD and we have had amazing responses from our audiences when we've played the show live. Enjoy!!!!!
