Album Review
The debut album by Helvetia is the sort of album that makes pretentious record reviewers give themselves paper cuts while thumbing through their thesauri looking for multiple synonyms of "trippy." However, while The Clever North Wind has its psychedelic moments, this is not yet another slab of sub-Flaming Lips neo-space rock: the core duo of Jason Albertini and Canaan Dove Amber (both formerly of Duster) puts all of the album's atmospheric doodling and cool sounds in the service of smart, well-written songs with memorable tunes and even the occasional catchy chorus. The epic grooves of Spacemen 3 and Spiritualized are an obvious touchstone, but so are the clever pop songs of the High Llamas or Loud Family on tracks like "Beezlebub (Leave Me Be)" and "A Wild One," which are every bit as inviting as Neu!-style churning drones like "Dusty Rue." The Clever North Wind is as melodic as it is hypnotic.

the album's beautiful
Its just great music. I put it on in the car on my way to school and I become completely relaxed. helvetia has one of the most original sounds out there and its definately worth listening to. My favs are hellawaitsya and gladness
Low-fi Happiness
Not since Duster's Stratosphere album have my ears been so pleased. This is an intelligent low-fi album that has been been in heavy rotation on my iPod. This is another fine addition from the folks at Up Records. Dusty Rue is worth checking out. It builds, hums and rattles until it almost breaks your grounding of where you think the song is going before it unleashes it's smart madness on you. This may not be for everyone, but it sure is for me.
Great Album, start to finish
I recently discovered The Clever North Wind by Helvetia and I'm thoroughly impressed. Their sound is deep and dark, but still really fun. They remind me a lot of Acetone, remember them?
