God loves Shane

It's got to be it or this man would be dead by now.Drinking or not, this album is just great. Shane can't sing and thats why it's just another awsome cd.The Popes are just an awsome band and they make the album."Paddy Rolling Stone" is a great driving home from work on a Wednesday song. I love the entire album. Pick and buy 5 songs ,any five and you won't be disappointed!

A picture of Shane.

Shane MacGowan's work with the Popes is some of my most beloved music that I have ever listened to or owned. I have mentioned before that any true artist/writer would be proud to have just one of the many songs that Shane has written. On this album Shane take the listener for a ride through stories and characters, some of which are probably from his personal experience growing up in Ireland. He even has fun singing a song from the point of view of a speed fueled, racist truck driver in America (but pure brilliance). Unfortunately, some politically correct numb skulls forced this album out of publication in the U.S. for years because of some of the lyrics being racist and homophobic. They didn't get it I guess. Shane is an original. There is no one like him, never will be. He is often misunderstood, sometimes difficult, but always transparent. What you see is what you get, and he somehow has managed to keep on riding that often Lonesome Highway...

I really liked the Snake, but this was better

I loved Shane with the Pogues, and I really enjoyed the Snake. This is just pure 100% Shane, some just Brilliant songs. I agree with the reviewer about some of the Racist remarks. People don't get it. he's one of the greatest song writers ever, and this is a wonderful showcase. Shane grew up with racism, being Irish in England. He's not promoting racism, he's putting in an ugly light. St. John of Gods is one of my all time favorite songs. Also, leave it to Shane to have "Paddy" in the title of the first 3 songs.

A transcendent singer/songwriter and two-fisted gutter poet whose notorious drunken behavior, rotten teeth, and drug-fueled excesses often threatened to eclipse his reputation as a performer, Shane MacGowan was born on Christmas Day, 1957, in Kent, England. Within months, his family returned to their native Ireland, where he spent the first several years of his life immersed in the traditional music of the Irish culture. When MacGowan was six, the family moved to London; there his talents as a writer...
