Album Review
As the years go by, the Cult become more traditional, which is a mixed blessing. At their best, the Cult can sound as powerful as any other hard rock outfit, but they have trouble coming up with enough decent riffs and songs to fill an album. The band sounds good on The Cult, but the songs aren't their strongest.

Misunderstood Rock Album?
Here's the thing with The Cult: Even their harsher critics can't put a finger on what The Cult's "sound" is. It's hard for their fans as well. I saw the band on this tour at Irving Plaza in NYC. I loved the show and the new tunes. This was 1995. "The Cult" didnt stand a chance by American Billboard standards. But the tunes on here really stand up in 2006. This album came out at the height of the Seattle boom, and rather than grunge things up, the band came up with yet another way to tell their version of the rock and roll story. Not too heavy with a touch of production that reflected the mid-nineties obsession with DJ produced music. I'm a fan, but this record is a gem even a fan may have skipped out on.
Cult Classic
Underrated in its release, this album's fierceness is unchanged almost a decade after its birth. Go ahead, dwell deeper into the Cult.
Great music!
The first time I heard this album i thought, "what kind of music is this?" 10 years later and I'm still wondering. Possibly the most original alternative band in the industry and certainly the darkest. Soulful, poetic, unique and spellbinding are just some of the superlatives I can use to describe ' The Cult'.
