Album Review

The best Summer anthology from a dance perspective. This gives the full view of Summer's best tunes the way they were played in the clubs; all the added loops, orchestrations, and extra production, plus her voice mixed to its fullest and even boosted. It covers 73 minutes, which is more than anyone except the disco junkies would ever need, and even has an extra cut on the cassette, rather than on the CD.

MacArthur Park—Sweet!

If you're a fan of Donna Summer's greatest hits and even more, a fan of the glorious remake, MacArthur Park, then this is the collection for you. Listeners are treated to extended edits of Summer's greatest hits—with a few exceptions. Plus, the magnificent studio set of songs (excised from her original Live and More CD due to length) are here in their full glory: MacArthur Park, One of a Kind, Heaven Knows and MacArthur Park (reprise). You can bet that there will be another song for Summer, and she will sing it.

The Dance Collection

By far if not for anything else the MacArthur Park Suite is worth the purchase. It's actually as it was played in some of the best discos like The Saint in NYC. Very highly recommended.

Weak

This is a weak cd. Where is Love to Love You (song that put her on the R&B map), Try Me...I could name a lot more, but the true Donna fans know what's missing.

Donna Summer's title as the "Queen of Disco" wasn't mere hype — she was one of the very few disco performers to enjoy a measure of career longevity, and her consistent chart success was rivaled in the disco world only by the Bee Gees. Summer was certainly a talented vocalist, trained as a powerful gospel belter, but then again, so were many of her contemporaries. Of major importance in setting Summer apart were her songwriting abilities and her choice of talented collaborators in producers/songwriters...
