Album Review

Released just one year after the 20th Century Masters greatest-hits compilation, The Definitive Collection does something that no other Bobby Brown greatest-hits album has been able to: provide a comprehensive overview of his entire career. Whether it's his tenure in teen idol sensations New Edition (represented here by the Ray Parker, Jr. classic "Mr. Telephone Man"), his new jack era (largely represented by all five Top Ten singles off of Don't Be Cruel), or his later years, it's all here. Also included is his recent collaboration with Ja Rule, "Thug Lovin'," and his horrifically dated contribution to the Ghostbusters II soundtrack, "On Our Own." Though this disc could have only been helped along with the inclusion of more New Edition material, it stands as a solid document and is the only disc that a person with a passing interest in Brown's career will ever need.

Artists have a huge issue with itunes. So this change is probably coming from the artist pushing the record label to change whatever contract the label has with itunes. When we buy only singles it does not count as a 'unit' sold for the artist. It doesn't go towards album sales... BUT it does go towards a sale FOR THE LABEL. Kid Rock banned one of his albums. Jay-z banned 'AMerican Gangster' and said since a movie is not sold scene by scene on itunes, neither would American Gangster soundtrack.
Also besides the money the artists feels like their work is being short changed because we (the buyers) never really get to hear all of their work if we're just buying singles.
At the end of the day its about $. The labels can benefit wonderfully from singles sold and artists are now picking up on it.

Bobby Brown is the best EVER!

This CD is the best. Every song on here is awesome, even Feelin Inside and the song with Ja Rule.

P.S. Check out his song with Gorilla Zoe, "Life of a Hustler." That song is straight up awesome as well!

Terrific nostalgia...BUT

...why do I have to buy the entire album?! There are a few dynamite songs that I'd buy for sure if they were available individually, but I'm not about to shell out $12.00 for an album in which I'd only listen to 30% of. The whole reason I was drawn to iTunes in the first place was the concept of purchasing just the songs I want as opposed to going to my local music store and having to waste cash on unwanted tracks. I hope this trend will die out quickly on iTunes...

Biography

Genre: R&B/Soul

Years Active: '80s, '90s, '00s

One of the brightest R&B stars of the late '80s and early '90s, Bobby Brown was the man who popularized new jack swing, a blend of classic soul, urban synth-funk, and hip-hop rhythms that often featured rap breaks in between the conventionally melodic verses and choruses. Guy's Teddy Riley may have...
