Very original, beautiful voices and instrumentation.
vermont loves you, brown bird!
just saw this band for the first time at the northeast kingdom music festival, where they rocked the tent down two sets in a row. incredible, haunting, original roots folk music with very inventive instrumentation. i bought this cd from them right off the stage and have been listening to it non-stop. they are definitely one of the best bands i've run across in years, and this is a beautiful cd.
Amazing variety of styles; consistently meaningful.
Brown Bird certainly aren't for everyone, like any band. Unlike most bands, however, they employ such an impressive and sometimes downright odd mix of styles and tones that the listener will experience unique sounds from dark to light, from gloomy to foot-tapping (and sometimes both). The sheer poetry in nearly every second of the record shines on its own, musical merit aside; deep in emotion and vivid in delivery, it may just send chills up one's spine.
I cannot recommend Brown Bird, and especially this album - perhaps their most mature, grown-up effort to date - highly enough.
