iTunes Review
On their first album in nearly a decade, The Misfits live up to their ghoulish legend by unleashing bruising punk-cum-metal tunes laced with classic horror-flick imagery. The Misfits’ legacy has thrived since the ‘70s, thanks to the ubiquitous use of their grinning Fiend Skull logo and their musical influence on groups as disparate as Guns N’ Roses and My Chemical Romance. On The Devil’s Rain, founding member Jerry Only (vocals/bass), Dez Cadena (guitar), and Eric “Chupacabra” Arce (drums) put new flesh on the bones of their trademark sound, benefiting from Ed Stasium’s brawny production. Tracks like “Jack the Ripper,” “Vivid Red,” and “Ghost of Frankenstein” are turbocharged punk assaults filled with mauling riffage and bashing drumwork. More slow and seething are “Curse of the Mummy’s Hand” and “Dark Shadows,” letting Only solemnly intone his tales of fear and mayhem. A ‘50s rock influence (one of The Misfits’ distinct trademarks) adds sweetness to the dark savor of “Twilight of the Dead” and “Monkey’s Paw.”
Customer Reviews
Beware! Warning! This will offend your good taste.
I like old and new Misfits line-ups so I'm not even going down the usual path of criticism...but really? Jerry you're killing me with the polished Pro Tools production. I've seen you live multiple times, you can't sing! Why can't you and Danzig just hug it out? Doyle seems to gave come to terms with whatever animosity existed. Move on. Release whatever you want and write however many crappy songs you can about the same tired horror movie cliches. Just stop dragging your name and the Misfits legacy through the mud. Et tu Dez? Jerry, you've become the George Lucas of punk rock...messing with a good thing for the sake of the almighty dollar.
Devils Rain
Are you kidding me? This should not be considered a Misfits album, I have been a huge fan for over 15 years and this is a joke. Some of the music is not too bad but the vocals are awful. Jerry should not be singing these songs, it sounds extremely overproduced and the amount of effects on his voice are ridiculous.
For Jerry to say this is there best lineup ever is silly, I understand how some of the younger fans may like this since they simply don't know any better. People should do themselves a favor and listen to the back catalog from the Danzig and Graves eras.
Saying this is their best work and lineup is like saying Tony Martin was the best singer Black Sabbath had. Don't know who Tony Martin is??? Yeah neither do I , people should do the same thing with Jerry Only and The Misfits should get a real singer again.
Amazing album
The misfits have never sound any better. Jerry Only's vocals are great, the bands sound is great and the lyrics have never been better. If you do not like this album then you are no true fiend. Long live The Misfits!!!!!
