iTunes Review

George Thorogood has spent four decades bringing bar-band blues to the masses. With a sandpaper and whiskey growl and a deliberately sloppy slide guitar technique that does away with finesse, Thorogood is a full-throttled belter who delivers the fat and rough R&B, blues and early rock ‘n’ roll without the commercial considerations of more mainstream performers. This “purist” approach guarantees a fidelity to the originals. Tackling such stone classics doesn’t leave much wiggle room. Howlin’ Wolf will forever own “Howlin’ for My Baby.” Thorogood, however, attacks it with all the desperation in his soul and when the guitar tone is as thick as it is on Willie Dixon’s “Tail Dragger,” “Drop Down Mama,” and Muddy Waters’ “Born Lover,” it kicks the cobwebs off the vintage material and brings it up to date. The second half of the collection features older recordings — “fan favorites” — that illustrate the Thorogood (with his back-up band the Destroyers) experience for anyone who has somehow missed it all these years.

a little more like the OLD stuff

by honestjerry

been a fan since album number one. I really enjoy their covers of the old songs personally. I've never heard most of them before and it makes me go listen to the originals. Blue Highway has been one of my favorites for years. Don't really know why they included old stuff on here instead of all new recordings but it's ok with me since I don't own digital copies anyway. I miss the old slow slide guitar songs like "goodbye baby"and "the sky is crying", not sure why they moved away from them. Anyway, I think the album moves in the right direction for them, covering old songs and making them their own is what got them noticed in the first place, let's bring some more songs into this century!

more of the same....

George Thorogood is, at best, a one-trick pony. Instead of this crap, buy some Muddy Waters, Howlin Wolf, Buddy Guy, Bo Diddley, Taj Mahal, etc. My wife dragged me to one of Thorogood's shows w/ Buddy Guy as the opener. After seeing Buddy, GT's singing, playing, and on-stage persona made him seem more like the Spinal Tap of the blues than an original artist.

Still Rocking Hard!!!

I bought the album without hearing the songs because I have always been a big fan and knew I would not be disappointed. While listening to the songs my feet started to move, my body started to shake, and I felt wild all over! Mr. Thorogood has once again showed that he is the king of good old fashioned rock and roll. Thanks George for some really hard driving music.
