iTunes Review
Upon its release in 2005, The Emancipation of Mimi was hyped as a “comeback,” which in this case was just another way of saying she felt she had something to prove again. And prove herself she does with a release that is solid, self-assured and, most of all, fun. And while the use of an alter ego would suggest that Carey was stepping far outside of herself, it’s really a return to her R&B roots after chasing the elusive pure pop audience. Further proof of this is her A-list cast of supporting artists and co-producers, including such neo-R&B heavyweights as Nelly, Twista, Snoop Dogg, Jermaine Dupri, and Pharrell Williams. Slickly produced and packed with heavy beats and slow grinds, the album is a mix of sultry ballads and mostly mid-tempo tunes that lean more toward soul than dance numbers. But, as always, it’s the voice that’s the main draw, and her pipes certainly are amazing here. Technically her vocal chops may not be as strong as during her early-1990s prime, but in many ways she sounds better because she’s learned how to control and bend them to the music rather than simply blow the lid off the tunes. Whether as Mimi or Mariah, the woman knows how to get a song across.

BEST CD EVER
This CD is me and my family's favorite CD. Mariah is a great singer and her songs are exellent: -"It's Like That" is such an addicting song. Great PARTY SONG. One of the funnest! -"We Belong Together" I LOVE this song so much. The entire song from start to finich is great! -"Shake It Off" is my favorite from the album and from any album (meaning it's my FAVORITE SONG). I know the lyrics word for word and I sing them almost all the time. -"Mine Again" is an OK song. The lyrics are good and so are Mariah's vocals. -"Say Something" is a fun song. Good background sound. -"Stay the Night" has a wierd start. Also a good song and good beat. -"Get Your Number" is a Five Star song! I love this song! -"One and Only" has a great chorus I only noticed recently. -"Circles" isn't such a good song, but has a good concept and a good voice. -"Your Girl" is a good song, starting at 15 seconds on the preview. -"I Wish You Knew" isn't such a good song, BUT IT'S MARIAH, so . . . . -"To the floor" is a great song. I love the background music. -"Joy Ride" good singing from Mariah, not the best song though. -"Fly Like a Bird" good concept. That's all I can say. Overall, I think if you buy this CD, you will not regret it. These songs are addictive, and you have to get used to them. The first time you hear them they only sound OK. But everytime you hear them, you like them more and more until you've listen to them so much that you LOVE them. And if you buy this CD, you will LOVE IT!!!!!
Incredible, if you are a TRUE FAN you know it is
I just wanted to say before I review: You people are insane. "All she talks about is love". Sure, it is a huge song topic, especially for Mariah, but for starters, most of the songs out there today ARE about relationships, so do not give me that garbage. Secondly, if you are a true fan you would know Mariah has talked about MANY issues, such as racism (There's Got To Be A Way, 1990), self confidence (Can't Take That Away, 1999, Hero, 1993), feeling like you have nobody else (Outside, 1996, Looking In, 1995), and tragic losses (Twister, 2001, One Sweet Day, 1995, and ESPECIALLY Sunflowers For Alfred Roy, 2003, which is about her fathers death). I suggest you all take a listen to her back catalog before all of you TEENAGERS run your mouth off and say things without knowing the true facts. The Review: This is an incredible album. There is such a mix of different subjects. (I am not reviewing every song because all of them are incredible). If you want a club banger, you have 'Say Somethin', 'Get Your Number', and 'Makin It Last All Night'. If you want a deep love song, you can listen to 'We Belong Together' and 'Don't Forget About Us'. If you are in need of inspiration, please listen to 'Fly Like A Bird'. Not every song on this album is about love. The album offers you a plethera of different genres and styles, and this is the perfect album to pick up if you like variety. I hope this review not only made you interested in The Emancipation Of Mimi, but also made you interested in Mariah's back catalog. I also hope this review helped you realize how much more there is to Mariah. Hope u like it! I am sure you will. It wasn't the #1 album of 2005 for nothing, nor did it produce two #1 singles this year, because it was bad. It is a wonderful album, and all of it's support truly shows how amazing it is.
Album of the Year!
This has to be my favorite album of the year (2005,) so far. I was never a big fan of Mariah, but once I heard "It's Like That" I was instantly hooked. I bought the album on the day of its release in April, and let me tell you! There are some standout tracks! My favorites are the smash #1 R&B ballad "We Belong Together," the fun, party track "It's Like That," the Kanye West produced "Stay the Night," and the hot duet "One & Only" featuring rapper Twista. The rest is definitely not filler. "Fly Like A Bird" has to be one of the best uplifting ballads I have ever heard! If you like female R&B, you have to pick this disc up now!
